Booster Dose Provides 90% Protection Against Hospitalization

According to new research published by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), a third COVID-19 vaccination dosage, or booster, gives excellent protection against becoming very ill with the Omicron type of the coronavirus.

The data was gathered over a 10-year period before and after the COVID-19 vaccination, also known as hCoV-EMC, was made available.

The number of instances of severe Omicron coronavirus was drastically reduced following the introduction of hCoV-EMC, according to an epidemiological investigation published yesterday in mBio.

According to the findings, there was a 91% drop in reported severe Omicron cases among military people and a 53% reduction among civilians.

“As of December 20, 2021, Omicron has been found in most states and territories, and the number of COVID-19 cases it is creating is fast increasing.” To find out if you and your family are Omicron positive, the CDC suggests taking the free COVID-19 test.

A COVID-19 booster vaccine dose is significantly protective against becoming seriously ill with the Omicron form, according to new CDC research.

People who had gotten a COVID-19 booster shot were much less likely to end up in the ER or in the hospital.

Another study indicated that persons who have had a booster vaccination, particularly older adults, are more protected against infection and death than those who have not been vaccinated.

According to new research published by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), a third COVID-19 vaccination dosage, or booster, gives excellent protection against becoming very ill with the Omicron type of the coronavirus.

Dr. Rochelle Walensky, director of the CDC, said at a White House briefing on Friday that “these results offer more support to the significance of being up to date with COVID immunizations — that means getting your primary series and being boosted when eligible — to guard against severe COVID-19.”
Researchers reviewed data from 10 states from August 2021 to January 2022 in one study trusted Source released by the CDC.

The scientists discovered that people who received a third COVID-19 vaccine dosage were 82 percent less likely than the unprotected to end up in an emergency department or urgent care clinic during the Omicron wave.

They were also 90% less likely to be admitted to the hospital than the unvaccinated.
During the Omicron wave, both types of protection were lower than during the Delta wave.

Booster protection has been shown in other investigations.
Between April and December 2021, the CDC’s second study trusted Source looked at COVID-19 cases and deaths reported in 25 state and local health agencies.

Researchers found that persons who had received a booster dose had better protection against infection and death during the Delta wave than those who had been fully vaccinated but not boosted.
Boosted persons were likewise more resistant to illness during the Omicron wave.

Researchers were unable to collect data on mortality during the Omicron wave due to a delay in reporting COVID-19 deaths.

People over the age of 65 received the most protection, followed by those aged 50 to 64

Dr. Shobha Swaminathan, an associate professor and infectious diseases specialist at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School, said, “[The study] clearly reveals that individuals who were unvaccinated had considerably greater rates of infection and death.”

Unvaccinated patients in the study had a nearly 20-fold higher chance of dying from COVID-19 than those who had been fully vaccinated, she said.

In a third study, which was published in the Journal of the American Medical Association, researchers found that.

Researchers looked examined data from over 70,000 persons who were tested for coronavirus infection using a pharmacy-based testing procedure, according to Trusted Source.

The investigators discovered that three doses gave better protection against symptomatic illness than two doses or not being immunized.

In comparison to Delta, full immunization and boosters gave reduced protection against the Omicron form.

Omicron has been shown in lab trials to be able to circumvent the protection provided by vaccines and preexisting immunization.

Last Thursday, the CDC released new COVID-19 data on its website, revealing that unvaccinated Americans aged 50 to 64 were 44 times more likely to be hospitalized in December than those who were completely vaccinated and received the third dose.

Unvaccinated adults 65 and older had a 49-fold increased risk of hospitalization.
